“Planting the Seeds of Health Awareness, Harvesting Hope,” Delta Health Center’s Community Health Fair event Saturday, November 20
Delta Health Center is hosting a community health fair event on Saturday, November 20th from 9:00am – 2:00pm at the Mound Bayou site, 702 Martin Luther King Road, Mound Bayou, MS. The theme for the event is, “Planting the Seeds of Preventive Health Care, Harvesting Hope,” and will feature free health screenings, health promotion education materials, family friendly entertainment, a farmers’ market and free food and beverages.
Mound Bayou, MS November 9, 2010 — Delta Health Center is planting seeds of health awareness on a variety of health issues that plague families in the Mississippi Delta with the help of its expanded primary care physician team which includes 2 new Pediatricians, 2 new OB/GYN physicians and an Internist. The November 20th health fair event will introduce our new primary care team to families in the Bolivar, Sunflower and Washington county communities as we provide free health screenings and health information. This family-centered event will be held from 9:00am – 2:00pm.
For those members of the community who did not attend the October 29th Open House event, the health fair will introduce the five new primary care providers to the Delta Health Center staff including Dr. Gaines, OB/GYN, Dr. Ganpot, Pediatrician, Dr. Jesubatham, Internist, Dr. Manickavasagam, Pediatrician, Dr. Norwood, OB/GYN. The health fair will offer attendees:
- Free peripheral arterial disease (PAD) screenings
- Free diabetes screenings
- Diabetes self-management information
- Asthma management information for families with children with asthma
- Information on SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)
- Free Screening – BMI (Weight & Height to calculate Body Mass Index)
- Information on Obesity Prevention and Reduction & Diabetes
Free food, entertainment and information will be provided at this event in partnership with area vendors and sponsors. Sponsors include Bolivar Medical Center and the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMC) Department of Family Medicine. Delta Health Center is one of the rural health clinical training sites for the UMC department of family medicine residency program. This rotational experience was established with significant effort on the part of the Jackson AHEC and is operated in collaboration with the Delta Health Alliance. “The experience at the Delta Health Center affords our family medicine residents an opportunity to participate in the care of patients in a rural setting.
