Deputy Scott Miller recently spoke to fourth-grade students in DHA's LifeSkills Training program at Sanders Elementary School in Hollandale about making good decisions! The children were all tuned in, with many questions about law enforcement and the consequences of bad decisions.

CARES Mentoring students at Edna M. Scott Elementary in Leland had a great time at learning about fire trucks with the local fire department! Thanks to Chief Dquan Wilson of the Leland Fire Department for meeting with mentees and giving them a tour of the fire truck.

We’re excited about this incredible highlight of the early end of our Deer Creek Promise Community programs! Our programs that focus on the youngest learners help to improve kindergarten readiness and prepare students for a future of academic success. In fact, DCPC programs have contributed to the Leland School District ranking first in kindergarten readiness out of all school districts in Mississippi twice in the past five years. CARES Mentoring at Edna M. Scott Elementary School in Leland recently held a "I am Lucky Because" activity in March. Mentors and mentees talked about things they were grateful for and decorated a shamrock using their creativity and writing skills. The activity gave mentees an opportunity to boost their creativity while also developing social skills.

During spring break, the Delta Better Futures team took some time off from teaching students decision making skills and spent time promoting the program in the community. We enjoyed discussing how DBF improves adolescent health and sets students up for success in life with folks in barber shops, at work, and out and about!
