Students at the Stewart Healthcare Training Academy recently gained valuable, real-world insight into the healthcare field through a guest presentation from Kendall Morrison of G.A. Carmichael Family Health Center. Through Delta Health Alliance’s LEADS workforce training program, experiences like this connect participants directly with employers, strengthening workforce development efforts across the region.

DHA's workforce programs continue to get results! In 2025, DHA enrolled 875 participants across its seven workforce development programs, resulting in 579 industry-recognized credentials and certifications. Our workforce programs aim to equip participants with the technical skills to lead successful careers and improve self-reliance in the Mississippi Delta, while responding directly to the workforce needs of local Delta businesses in key industries.

Last week, DHA welcomed the Brookings Institution and American Enterprise Institute (AEI) for a site visit as part of America's Rural Future: Brookings-AEI Commission on Rural Prosperity. DHA President & CEO Dr. Karen Matthews, board member Lisa Percy, and Leland Medical Clinic medical director Dr. David Weber participated in a discussion at LMC about longstanding gaps in health care access for rural Delta communities and how DHA helps to fill those gaps through LMC and other health-programs. The group then toured LMC, the Delta Wellness Center, and the construction progress on LMC's new Mississippi Delta Cares Center. Dr. Matthews and the Brookings and AEI representatives also discussed DHA's Promise Community initiatives in Washington and Leflore counties, including the successful partnerships with local school districts to improve school rankings and academic outcomes among Delta students.

America's Rural Future is a bipartisan initiative aimed at enabling rural prosperity and strengthening economic opportunity and resilience in the 21st century. We were honored to be one of six sites selected for public field hearings and were glad to have the opportunity to share about how DHA builds trusted relationships with community partners to tackle health, education, and economic challenges in the rural Mississippi Delta.
