Imagination Library

Dolly Parton started IL in 1995 for the children in her home county (Sevier County, TN) where she grew up. In 2005, one million books were mailed out. In 2019, one book is mailed out every 18 seconds. DHA became an IL affiliate in 2006.

Since IL’s conception, IL now serves 5 countries: USA, UK (United Kingdom), IE (Republic of Ireland), CA (Canada) and AU (Australia).

IL is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth until they begin school, no matter the family’s income. When the child turns 5 (on his/her 5th birthday, the child will receive their final book in the program, that is called the graduation book “Look Out Kindergarten, Here I Come”).

DHA’s IL program currently serves children from 3 counties: Bolivar, Washington and Sunflower county.

If a child becomes enrolled at birth, that child will be able to receive 60 books before graduating out of the program. A home library of quality books is the goal and purpose for this wonderful program.

If a parent/guardian relocates, please provide the postal service with your NEW ADDRESS, so the child’s book will follow the child.

How to qualify:

1. The child must be a resident of Sunflower, Washington, or Bolivar county 2. The enrolled child MUST be under the age of 5.

Why should parents enroll their child?

• The IL program is totally FREE  (no cost to parents/guardians)

• Research has proven, parents that read daily to their child (ren)…jump-start and BEST prepare their child for school success for their upcoming educational experience when entering Kindergarten.
