Delta Business Journal Ad – July 2013

While the Delta heat and humidity takes its toll on most of us, it never seems to get in the way of the 100 or so students who have been attending the Indianola Promise School. These are rising kindergarteners who are getting a jump on school by attending an intensive, four-week session aimed at preparing them for August classes. Teachers tell us the Promise School makes all the difference in giving students confidence, in providing a foundation for the academic challenges of kindergarten, and teaching them how to work in small groups with certified instructors.

Leland Medical Clinic hosts Ribbon Cutting on July 2

(Stoneville, MS) – Delta Health Alliance is hosting a grand opening and ribbon cutting of its Leland Medical Clinic on July 2 from 11:00 – 1:00. Residents and businesses of Leland and the surrounding area are encouraged to tour the clinic at 201 Baker Boulevard to see first-hand the services provided and meet the LMC staff.

Indianola Promise Community 2013 Summer Camp Schedule

The Promise Community Summer Camp partner organizations are: Vocabulary & Reading Comprehension Enhancement; Project ACHIEVE; Freedom Summer 2013; Kids Reading to Kids Summer Reading Initiative; School Development Initiative; and the Art of Living Smart.

2013 Growing Together Community Garden Contest and Network

Nothing says Mississippi Delta like homegrown produce! The gardening network initiative Growing Together, a partnership of Delta Health Alliance (DHA) and Delta Fresh Foods Initiative (DFFI) is hosting a contest and series of workshops to encourage more church, community, school, and youth gardeners throughout the Delta.

Leland Medical Clinic Changes Hands: Delta Health Alliance is the New Owner

Delta Health Alliance is the new owner of the Leland Medical Clinic, taking over from Dr. Ned Kronfol. According to Kronfol, “I had been looking to take my career in a different direction but didn’t want to just close the clinic and leave my patients without a convenient place to receive care.

Memphis Commercial Appeal Guest Column: Grant holds Promise for Mississippi Delta

Recently, a collaboration of community groups and schools in the Mississippi Delta, known as the Indianola Promise Community, won a Promise Neighborhood grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Over the next five years, the collaborative will invest $30 million in a cradle-to-career pipeline of programs for children and families. The Promise Neighborhood model seeks to leverage all of the resources in a community to improve an array of outcomes such as health, safety, family stability, access to learning technology and increased family engagement in children’s learning.

Indianola Comes Out On Top: Mississippi Municipalities Magazine

Indianola Mayor Steve Rosenthal got a welcome phone call right before Christmas — his city was the recipient of five-year $30 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education. It all began four years ago when the city joined with the Delta Health Alliance and local community leaders to establish the Indianola Promise Community.
